Lien and Phong pre-wedding pics!

Review from Lien on Yelp.com

"Ann Ho is the best Makeup Artist. She is not an ordinary person; but an outstanding and creative talent in her field. Ann truly made me feel like such a beautiful princess on my wedding day. I just love looking at my wedding pictures :) Thanks for making my day so special. "

It is imperative that you look best on your wedding day and Ann Ho is the one who can make that happen. I highly recommend her for makeup and hair styling.

Congrats to Phong and Lien!

Jackie's wedding

Jackie's wedding...
Photographer: Tiny Water
Makeup artist and Hairstylist: Styles by Ann "Ann Ho"

Jackie's review on Yelp:
I am very glad that I was able to find Ann through the yelp review. She was listed under another name. It was tough to find a good makeup and hair stylist at reasonable price. I am glad I came across to her review. She is very good at what she does. I had my trial and my makeup turned out great. She really takes her time and does not rush you. I have heard that other makeup artist jam pack their appointment that she ended up rushing you and does a crappy job. The reason why I am only giving 4 stars for now is that my wedding will be on 9/14 and I will definitely update everyone on how it turned out. For future brides out there, you really should check her out!

All right every future brides in the bay area: I just had my dream wedding & it was wonderful!! I want to increase the review & stars for Ann. She deserves more than a 5 stars! She did such an awesome job on me especially, even better than the makeup trial. I am so happy with the result, & you can check out for yourself. You can check out our photographer's blog site http://www.tinywaterbl... & look for the september 2008 blog under jackie & tadas. You can be the judge for yourself on Ann's work. I got so much complements on my makeup & hair!! Not only did Ann outdid herself, but she was able to accommodate me with changes at the last minute when my in laws wanted hair & makeup done as well. She definitely work well under pressure! Don't bother with other stylist including Christine makeup, whom happened to be flake & did not show up during my makeup trial. If You want someone who can do the job, take the time to make you look beautiful & gorgeous on your special day, and is professional & shows up on time, you need to hire Ann Ho!!!

Audris and Steve's wedding Sept 13th, 2008

Audri's review on yelp.com

Ann did my make-up for my September 13th wedding, and she did a spectacular job! The great thing about Ann is that she listens to your likes/dislikes and will put on as much or as little as you want on your face. I'm not used to wearing make-up, so I wanted something as natural as possible, but enough so that my face wouldn't wash out in the pictures. On my wedding day, everyone commented on how beautiful I looked and even today I still get many compliments when people look at my pictures from the event.

One of the things I also appreciate very much about Ann is that she doesn't pressure you to book as many services from her as possible so she can charge you a huge sum of money for her work. This is something I felt other wedding vendors were sometimes trying to do (other make-up artists, videographer, bridal gown shops, etc.), and I am so grateful that Ann is not like that. She genuinely cares about her work and really enjoys doing people's make-up. She's an easy-going person who not only does beautiful work, but is also cool to be around. I highly recommend Ann for a great make-up experience.

Tips on applying makeup!

Eyes:

Eyeliner:
Connecting the dots - To create a smooth line along the upper lashes, start at the outer corner and draw a series of dashes with an eye pencil, as close to the lashes as possible. Then connect the dots. This works for other types of liner as well. Doesn't have to be for pencil liners only.

Concealer:
Heat: before dabbing concealer on, warm it on the palms of your hands or rubbing the ring fingers together. The heat will thin the texture so the coverage will go ont smoothly.

Gentle:
Use the ring finger to apply eye concealer, by patting it on. Since the ring finger is the weakest of all fingers, it will not tug or pull the skin. Skin around the eye areas are the thinnest and most senstive.

Dotting concealers:
When covering undereye circles, put 3 dots of concealer from the inner corner to the middle of your eyes, then gentle pat, with your ring finger. DO NOT RUB!

Darken shadows:
To deepen the colors of any powder eye shadows, you would dip a small firm brush in water, before shading. Do not try to mix several colors, becuase it will not work and you will just make a mess. It makes the colors more intense and helps the shadow stay longer.

Easy smokey eyes:
For easy smoky eyes, get a chubby kohl pencil, rub it along the upper and lower lashes. Don't worry about making mistakes or not having the colors go on evenly. Then get a firm brush with nothign on it and blend in the colors to make it smooth and even.

Close set eyes:
To make the close-set eyes look farther apart, apply eyeliner only at the outer corners.

Eye openers:
Wide set eyes needs to be brighten with a dot of pale shadow at the inner corners. This makes the eyes look wide open and light reflecting, which makes the eyes look awake.

Greasy lips:
Before applying any color, put some foundation on the lips, then put some translucent powder over it, so the oils would get absorbed. Then apply the shadow colors.

Eyeliner stay put:
To help pencil eyeliners stay in place, trace over it with a short, stiff eyeshadow brush, dipped in powered shadow, in the same shade.

Take off:
The best eye makeup removers are the ones that are made for waterproof makeup. They are the ones the liquids are seperated in te bottles. They work awesome!

Remove:
For hard to get off eye makeup, what you want to do it hold the waterproof makeup remover pad over the lips for about 5 seconds, to let it soak in. The sweep if off. It should come off easily.

Bare Minerals foundation

This is the second time i have tried Bare Minerals foundation and i have now confirmed that i don't like it. I love the fact that it's good for your skin and has a good coverage, but the color sucks. At first i thought i might be an in between colors, that's why it just didn't match but then i tried it again when my color changed because i get tanner during the summer, and it was evern worst. The darker you get with Bare Minerals the more red there is. From a MUA point of view, red foundation is BAD! Yellow base is always the BEST. Can someone request for Bare Minerals to come out with some more colors with a yellow base than a red base. If they can do that, they would sell alot more, since most people are yellow than red. Yellow also helps eliminate the reds on people who turn red often also. So, dear Bare Minerals, can you please make your foundation more yellow. ;0)
